Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat
Most pet parents can relate to a situation when they couldn’t deny their loving pooch a scrummy, yummy treat. However, there are certain foods that could prove fatal for your pooch and should strictly be avoided under any circumstances. There will always be exceptions on the basis of breed, weight and other factors that vary in certain dogs. Some foods which are fit for human consumption can be extremely unfit for Dogs because of their different metabolism. Some of them may cause mild ups and down in Dog’s health, whereas, others may be fatal.
Some of the common foods that are not safe to be eaten by Dogs are:
Not Safe to eat
Alcohol or Alcoholic Beverages
Just a small quantity of alcohol based food stuff is enough to put the health of your loving pooch at risk commonly known as Ethanol Toxicosis. Unlike humans, dogs are completely intolerant to alcohol consumption in any form. Their kidneys are not meant to process any type of alcoholic beverage and it can result in lack of coordination, difficulty in breathing even coma or death.
Grapes and Dried Raisins
Eating a large quantity of grapes (32 g of grapes per kg of dog) can possibly be fatal to dogs; it varies as per dog’s weight. However, after the various reports and surveys it is proven that the larger amount of grapes and raisin consumption is dangerous for a dog’s health it can result in Vomiting, Diarrhea, Lethargy ,Abdominal pain, Loss of appetite ,Tremors ,Dehydration ,Breathing difficulty and can also harm their kidney function that could result in acute Kidney Injury.
Milk
Milk contains lots of essential nutrients like vitamin D, riboflavin, vitamin B12, calcium, and phosphorus, which generally considered as required nutrients for the general health and well – being of human as well as Dogs. However, just like some of the people have lactose intolerance which causes them difficulty to digest the milk, it is exactly similar in the case of Dogs. Some lactose-intolerant dogs have difficulty in milk consumption, but can easily digest dairy products like cheese and plain yogurt, as they are lighter in comparison to milk. Lactose intolerance can be problematic in following ways: loose stools, gas, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Mushroom
Mushroom poisoning in dogs can happen due to ingesting toxic mushrooms. The Severity of the condition will depend on the type and amount of it eaten by your dog. Following are the five common mushrooms associated with mushroom poisoning in dogs:- Amanita Muscaria — “Fly Agaric” , Amanita Gemmata — “Jeweled Death Cap”, Amanita Phalloides — “Death Cap”, Helvella Lacunosa — “Elf’s Saddle”.
Chocolate, Coffee and other caffeine items
These relishes are too tempting to resist, however if taken in larger quantity The toxic component known as theobromine can be fatal for your dog heath though humans can easily metabolize same.
Macadamia Nuts
Like many other potentially toxic foods for pets these nuts also come under the No category for dog food. Sometimes even when given unknowingly as treats, they can result in subsequent toxicity for dogs.
Raw Fish
Fish is a good source of Omega 3 benefits for dogs, but the way it is eaten can be problematic. Raw fish is at risk of carrying harmful bacteria like listeria and salmonella that could possibly make your dog sick. Long term Consumption of Raw fish can even result in vitamin deficiency in dogs.
